2017 Driftwood Quintet Downtown Glendale Residency

In May  of 2017 Driftwood announced our first collaboration with the Glendale Arts Council to program our first residency. The goal of this residency was to partner with community spaces that have cultural significance for the downtown Glendale community in order to bring high quality chamber music experiences to the diverse range of people that inhabit those neighborhoods.

Video Game Concert W/ Drawn to Comics

Drawn to Comics is a cultural landmark in the Glendale community. Since owner Ken Brown opened the shop in 2005 he has succeeded in not only creating a haven for die-hard comic book fans but also an inviting atmosphere for those who are just beginning their journey into the worlds of sci-fi and fantasy.

Our collaboration with Drawn to Comics took place on May 6th, 2017 during Drawn to Comics' annual Free Comic Book Day celebration. Joining us in performance will be local video game jazz band, Dratini on thRocks. Pieces performed will include everything from your favorite film scores such as Star Wars to the classic music of video games such as Zelda and Pokemon. This concert will close out with a joint performance of Dratini and Driftwood on the newly arranged pieces Tank! (from Cowboy Bebop) and One-Winged Angel (from Final Fantasy VII)

Libraries are traditionally pillars of learning and community gathering and the Velma Teague public library, without a doubt, lives up to the expectation. Driftwood Quintet is excited to add its interactive Children's Concert to Velma Teague's extensive and innovative programming in May.

Driftwood's Children's Concert utilized Camille Saint-Saëns' Carnival of the Animals and the companion poetry by Ogden Nash to help kids learn about the instruments of a reed quintet and how their different sounds are utilized.

Undoubtedly one of Driftwood's more awe-inspiring programs, our annual Orchestral Masterworks concert will take place on the beautiful stage of the Brelby Theatre Company. Although the youngest collaborator in our residency, Brelby has shown that they are a theatre company heavily dedicated to arts advocacy.

Pieces performed included Mvmt. 1 from Mahler’s 1st Symphony “The Titan”, Paul Dukas’ Sorcerer’s Apprentice from Fantasia, Bachianas Brasileiras No. 9 by Brazilian composer Heitor Villa-Lobos, and November by film composer Max Richter and featuring violin soloist Clarice Collins.
